Which tools connect a Switch 2 Pro Controller to a Mac?

InputConfig, the free Mac app Rockstar Health makes, reads a Switch 2 Pro Controller on a USB-C cable and, with a setting, over Bluetooth, and maps it to keys, clicks and the pointer. macOS itself supports only the original Switch Pro Controller, so every route to a Mac is an app that talks to the controller directly.

We compared every route that exists in October 2026 by what each one asks of your Mac in return. We make InputConfig, so weigh our view with that in mind, and know that it marks its Switch 2 support as experimental.

Which one we would pick

You want games to see it as a controller. switch2mac is the one whose readme claims a virtual gamepad with nothing switched off. It needs macOS 15 on Apple silicon and calls itself a beta, so read its page before you install it.

You want it in Steam on a cable. Switch2ProMac and procon2-mac both make a wired Pro Controller 2 readable by Steam.

You want it to run the Mac, or a game with no controller support. InputConfig maps it to keys, clicks and the pointer, reads the motion sensors since version 1.8, and comes with ready layouts for more than 450 games and apps.

You want something that simply works today. The original Switch Pro Controller pairs with a Mac over Bluetooth with no extra software, and Nintendo lists it as compatible with the Switch 2, so one pad can serve both.

Why we weigh what a tool asks of your Mac

For a lot of the people we build for, the Mac is how they work, write and stay in touch. System Integrity Protection is the macOS protection that keeps other software from changing protected parts of the system, and a tool that needs it switched off is asking for a lot in exchange for a controller.

We would not switch it off on a Mac someone relies on. Of the routes above, only the Helper's gamepad mode asks for that, and it offers a paid entitlement as the other option.

What InputConfig reads, and what it cannot do

What it reads. Every face button, both sticks, the D-pad, L, R, ZL and ZR, Minus, Plus, Home, Capture, the C button and the two back buttons, GL and GR, plus the gyroscope and accelerometer and the stick calibration stored in the controller.

After sleep. It sends the start-up commands again, so the controller comes back without a replug.

What it cannot do. It cannot make the controller a Mac game controller, so games that read controllers through macOS still do not see it. ZL and ZR read as on or off, and it does not use rumble or NFC.

Why it is experimental. It was built from the community's published start-up sequence without the controller in hand, and the Bluetooth setting is labeled not yet checked on a controller. A USB-C data cable is the surer route.

The full guide

The step by step setup lives on the InputConfig site: Switch 2 Pro Controller on a Mac, step by step. InputConfig is free on the Mac App Store, open source under the MIT license, and runs on macOS 14 or later on Apple silicon and Intel Macs.

Questions people ask

Does the Switch 2 Pro Controller work on a Mac without extra software?
Not on its own. macOS has no support for it or for the Joy-Con 2, so every route in the comparison above is an app that speaks the controller's protocol itself.
Is there an official Switch 2 Pro Controller driver for Mac?
There is none from Apple or Nintendo. InputConfig needs no driver: on a cable it sends the controller's start-up commands itself, and over Bluetooth it talks to the controller directly.
Which Switch 2 Pro Controller tool is the safest for a Mac?
The ones that leave your Mac's security settings alone. By their own pages, that is InputConfig, switch2mac, Switch2ProMac, procon2-mac on a cable, and switch2bridge-macos. Download each one only from its own repository, because several of these projects have similar names.
Does the Switch 2 GameCube controller work the same way?
In InputConfig it does: it takes the same start-up commands as the Pro Controller 2. switch2mac also lists it.
